Closing the Loop: A Circular Economy Case from Donat
Last December, the BECOME Project Learning Community (Slovenia, hosted by @IEDC – Bled School of Management) continued with an inspiring webinar featuring a best-practice example of circular economy in action.
@Iva Starc from @Atlantic Grupa presented Donat’s unique approach to closing the PET recycling loop. In cooperation with a recycling partner, Donat collects its own PET bottles and recovers the majority of the material placed on the market, reusing it in the production of rPET. This almost closed-loop system represents an outstanding example for bottling companies across the region.
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by Donat confirmed that rPET is the most environmentally friendly packaging option, outperforming virgin PET, glass, and other tested materials.
Customer research revealed that while consumers still show some concerns about PET—particularly regarding microplastics and a perceived preference for glass—Donat’s scientific research demonstrated no microplastics risk in their products. Transparent, evidence-based communication is therefore key to building trust.

The session was expertly moderated by @Mirjana Matešić, fostering a rich and insightful discussion.
Thank you to all participants for contributing to a meaningful exchange of knowledge on sustainability and circular solutions.
The next BECOME Project webinar “How to turn circular economy from a buzzword into a business advantage?” will take place in January the 27th.
